Already in China?
Changing your teaching job while working and living in China. By Lynn Heming
So you've been at this awhile now, living and working in China. You didn't know about journeyeast.org or you didn't think using an organization like journeyeast would be helpful. After all, you've been to thirty countries, you've made and lost your fortune, and that break you took from law school ten years ago is still in the que. China just happened, it wasn't expected. Now you're just about accustomed to the culture, you've acquired some language skills and seeking a change from your present reality. You don't trust so easily so what is a girl to do? You're not ready to give up, but you're in a unforgivable working situation and change has set into your heart and your committed to it.
The chill from paper-thin windows blows across chapped bare fingers as your eyes read this information. The moldy apartment your school provided is subject to black outs so you scan quickly trying to glean as much as you can before the computer goes down again.
It's only been a few months, the Chinese recruiter you hired has already collected her introduction fee and left you to hold up all the promises she made to the school. You've called several times, but their phone has been disconnected.
You hate to leave and break your contract, after all, its not the students fault - they're lovely. In fact, you think without their warm greeting each morning you probably would have froze to death already. "Cmon!" You shout at the slow internet connection. Another sip of Nestle Coffee.. There it is.. Feeling calmer..
Your salary is late again, but the school insists they paid. They want to provide more, but they've already given the Chinese company that hired you - your salary and they can't reach them either. So much for that trip you've been planning with your new friends. Anger rising.. more Neste...
