Preparing for the Summer English Camp

Tips and Ideas from your friends at Nova Language Group.

Since the majority of the students in the Summer Camps are children varying in ages from 8-14, the main goal of the Summer English Camp is to let students have fun while also learning English and experiencing a taste of American culture.Your ideas for English songs, games, dances, activities that can be used both in class and outside class will be very important and welcomed.

Please consider interesting ideas to help students with weekly activities held by the school. For example, think of activities that can be used at birthday parties or other themed parties and also popular Western stories or fairy tales that can be changed into short plays in English. You are also encouraged to bring American CDs or DVDs that can be used for English parties and Movie nights. Naturally, use discretion regarding language, politics and adult content.

Things that can be used for outdoor activities such as frisbees, balloons, American football, etc will all come in handy.

Motivation stickers, posters, comic books, pencils, and similar small interesting items can be used as prizes to encourage students in class.

The students will be very curious about America and what your home-life, families, and lifestyles are like.  Postcards, picture-books and photographs will all be very warmly received.  Typically American items like small flags, T-shirts, souvenirs, and so forth also make great gifts! Even advertising leaflets from supermarkets or stores will be warmly welcomed.

Please tell us any special dietary requirements or needs that you have.  For example, if you are a vegetarian, the cooks will prepare some meatless dishes.  There is usually a wide variety of food to try and if you are familiar with specific Chinese food that you like, please let us know.  That could be helpful as we prepare menues.

Our camps have been scheduled initially from July 9th, 2007 to August 4th, 2007, for teaching 24 days within 3 days off.  Foreign teachers should arrive at each camp one day before the starting. There will be some changing for some camps, e.g. 3 weeks and 2 weeks camps. We will send you any news as soon as fixing the final plans and schedules.
