The online TEFL Professional class is conducted in a Virtual Learning Environment hosted on Blackboard.com. TEFL classes (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) are ideal for students seeking to teach English abroad professionally as a paid English teacher, those who wish to train part time with the ease and flexibility of distance learning, and with a significantly lower cost than the traditional 4 week international TEFL certification course. The 120 hours of training is the industry standard for professional TEFL certification worldwide. (100 hours of classwork, 20 hours of practicum)

Course Description

The 100 hours of onlie TEFL academic coursework translates to approximately 12–15 hours a week of work over a 2 month period. You will also have a 20 hour Practicum (student teaching and observation at a local ESL classroom in your town or community).

Your online TEFL coursework can be completed at any time of the day but follows a weekly timetable with your classmates. A TEFL Institute online student will be part of a class of 20-25 online students from North America, Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East.

You will have 1 chapter (Module) per week of reading, 2-3 timed quizzes, 2-3 projects (lesson plans, essays, short projects), and a requirement of providing feedback to at least 2 of your peer’s work for every assignment.

The Students

Typically 20–25 students are in each TEFL Professional online class section. Most are from North America; approximately 15% are students from Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. There is no “live time” requirement which makes it possible for all students to activity participate within a group learning environment via discussion boards from all different time zones worldwide.

Your Professor

Our Online TEFL Professional course is taught by a university-level professor with a MA or PhD in TESOL or a related discipline, ten or more years teaching experience and has taught English abroad.

The Virtual Classroom

Within the virtual classroom community hosted on Blackboard.com, TEFL Institute students will participate in a comprehensive course which teaches the basics of second language acquisition and the methodology required to Teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).

Blackboard.com is the most widely used platform for online learning in the United States and is the preferred platform for university level distance learning.

In order to complete the course successfully, the student must complete homework, timed quizzes, tests, essays, give online feedback to other students, and complete a final project of a thematic unit. The course features peer review via discussion groups, which is complemented by continuous online teacher feedback. The course is not running on live-time, which provides flexibility for our students to login day or night. The online TEFL Professional course grading is on a 400 point scale with a 70% grade to pass.
