Essays are the component required for registering for the competition.  You still need to be a great teacher!

Your choices of composition:

Option 1.  (3 POINTS - 500 WORDS)  Reflect upon one of the greatest cultural challenge you had to overcome about living in China.  Focus on the challenge itself and how you were able to overcome it.  Illustrate the support you received from peers and/or journeyeast.  Is this a similar challenge that Chinese might experience in your hometown?

Option 2. (3 POINTS - 500 WORDS)  Illustrate your perceptions and expectations of China before your arrival, and share your present thoughts.  Share with your audience pros and cons as compared with life in your hometown.  For example, what was your idea of Chinese people and how you might be received as foreigner from abroad.  What was your most embarrassing moment in China?

Option 3. (4 POINTS - 500 WORDS)  Tell us about your students and what it has been like Teaching English in the Chinese classroom..  Do you have a particular favorite student?   Do you find your students are motivated to learn English or there because their parents require them to be.  How do you feel your students think of you as their teacher?  Provide an example of one lesson were the class really enjoyed themselves and what you taught them that day.  What has teaching in China done to improve your character?

Option 4.  (5 POINTS - 500 WORDS)  Submit three lesson plans.  Clearly Illustrate what the lessons aim to accomplish, how you prepared and planned the lesson and how did the class receive the lesson.  Was the lesson well received?  Did the students find it interesting?  Did they feel that the lesson provided them with important English Language or Culture knowledge.  Do you plan most of your lessons around basic English Language concepts or do you also include cultural components?  What is the balance between the two in your lessons.  If you were going to teach teachers on what the best method for teaching English might be, then what would you write?
